Welcome to the Center for Applied Transgender Studies!
We are proud to announce the formal launch of the Center for Applied Transgender Studies, the leading academic organization dedicated to scholarship on the social, cultural, and political conditions of transgender life, based in Chicago, Illinois.
We are an independent research organization run by transgender people for transgender people, and we promote the empirical study of transgender issues with the ultimate aim of informing policy-making and public discourse in ways that improve transgender quality of life.
We are also proud to announce the 30 Fellows who form the Center’s inaugural class—each of whom pursues field-defining research. These include 20 Senior & Distinguished Fellows and 10 Junior Fellows across five countries and several of the world’s top academic institutions. You can meet all of them here, or over on our Twitter or Instagram pages!
The diversity of our Fellows and the differences of our academic and personal backgrounds make our work better. We are committed to ensuring that our work advocates for the needs of all transgender people and that it is made free and available to the publics we serve.
